A national inventory had to become more than a collection of maps
Serbia needed a nationally consistent wetland information environment that could consolidate fragmented scientific, institutional and geospatial sources, preserve data confidence and support future enrichment. The result combines a structured wetland data model with an operational portal for review, editing, analysis, reporting and change tracking.

A working national portal with maps, dashboards and GeoStories
The final-state UI shows that the National Wetland Inventory is an information platform rather than a single map. Published map products, national layers and thematic content can be accessed through a common Web GIS environment.

Countrywide environmental layers make national-scale review operational
The national layer overview provides strong evidence of geographic scale and the integration of multiple environmental and reference datasets in one interface. The source also documents WMS/WFS interoperability and open export formats.

An intermediate Task 9 geospatial baseline; later project stages continued refinement toward the final inventory.
Wetland geometry, attribute tables and map-native analytics stay connected
The Ramsar table view links mapped wetlands to structured records, while the analysis widgets summarize wetland area and classes directly in spatial context. Together they demonstrate review and analysis workflows rather than passive visualization.


Geometry and environmental attributes can be updated through structured forms
Authorized users can edit wetland geometry and associated records through controlled forms. The implementation also records user/time history and supports calculated geometry-derived values, helping keep edits traceable and internally consistent.

The final portal was refined through an earlier development Geoportal and user testing
MapSoft established an early development Geoportal for spatial-data inspection and iteratively refined the production environment through user feedback.

Geospatial processing, structured data and standards-based Web GIS operate as one system
Earth Observation and national spatial sources feed a domain-specific wetland model in PostgreSQL/PostGIS. GeoServer exposes spatial services and MapStore provides the operational frontend, with role/group permissions controlling review, editing and public access.
Sentinel-derived and national reference data support the geospatial processing workflow.

Known limitations, controlled vocabularies and pilot testing are part of the quality model
The project documentation records source limitations instead of hiding them, uses controlled vocabularies and form-based data entry, and confirms iterative testing by five pilot users. The delivered system is formally accepted; the portal remains operational and post-project support is ongoing as of September 2026.

NWI Serbia demonstrates MapSoft's ability to connect national-scale geospatial processing, environmental data governance, spatial databases and Web GIS in one maintainable institutional platform.
The wider NWI programme is a joint IBISS–MapSoft delivery under UNDP. MapSoft's documented contribution covers geospatial data, data modelling/database and Web GIS implementation; ecological field surveys and consortium-wide scientific conclusions remain consortium-level work.
