3D city

The need for a 3D model of the city is growing significantly in many application areas. The most common users of 3D information are architects, urban planners and spatial planners. Information of this kind are of great importance to the design and construction of new urban areas and roads ie. expansion of the city and for the reconstruction and maintenance of existing infrastructure. Great interest in 3D data comes from municipal systems as 3D models allow for easier understanding of the existing system of pipes, sewers,... A modern area that has a huge need for 3D data is the field of mobile telecommunications. 3D models are very important for planning the location and installation of telecommunication antennas in order to aviod mobile phone "dead areas". Great interest for data of this kind comes from companies in the micro - climate research, ecology, analysis of air pollution and the study of the propagation of sound and electromagnetic waves. In modern area, the development of navigation systems in cars broaden the application of three-dimensional data for the development of the more modern system that would serve as a big help to drivers in cities. You tend to travel agencies in a similar way to show their offers and locations and thus attract the attention of potential tourists, and to them in a much simpler way to get the desired information.

3D modeling of the city is very large and complex task. For this reason, a very important role is played by the automation of the entire process. By combining various data sources with techniques for digital image processing are obtained impressive results in the automation of the geometric and descriptive data for modeling.

In 3D modeling level of details is one of the most important aspects. In accordance with international standards MapSoft produces various models:

LOD0 (Level of details 0) - Widely regarded as the 2.5 digital terrain model, where objects can be represented as a 2D or 3D polygons or projections are based on a flat roof. It is often through these model sets orthophoto or shading is done based on the data of the digital terrain model.

LOD1 - the level of detail where the buildings are like a prism, and the roofs themselves as straight. This way of modeling is often used to create 3D models for larger territories.

LOD4 - indicates the level of detail where the buildings complement the interior of the building. Buildings in LOD4 consist of rooms, interior doors, stairs and furniture.
